Benefits of Solar Panels

What is Solar Power?

Solar energy is produced by the sun’s rays and can be converted to electricity or heat. It is readily accessible, and due to technological advancements, we can now tap even more of the solar energy that is already available to us.  We can  use the energy to assist in powering our houses, parks, and businesses, as well as machinery.  For the same context, we may also use the word solar electricity.  Solar is an innovative energy option for land owners of all types, but as with any energy choice, going solar has a number of advantages and drawbacks to consider.

How Do Solar Panels work?

Solar panels generate power by capturing the sun’s energy and transforming it. Study how your solar energy device relates to your home and blends with your current power grid by reading on.

Solar panels produce electricity by allowing photons from the sun’s rays to knock electrons loose from atoms within photovoltaic (solar) cells. Each panel is made up of several solar cells that are joined together (typically 60 or 72). Each cell has a positive and negative layer that combine to produce an electrical field that generates electricity.

The negative charge is generated by phosphorus within the top silicon layer, while the positive charge is provided by boron in the bottom layer.  The two fields work together to convert the sun’s rays into electricity that flows from your panels to your inverter.

Here’s how it works step by step:

Step 1:   As sunlight strikes the layers of the solar panels, photons and electrons combine to provide an electrical current.

Step 2:   An electrical current flows from the panels to the solar inverter, which transforms the energy produced by the panels (DC) into usable energy for your house (AC).
Step 3:   The alternating current energy flows from the inverter into your breaker box, where it is distributed across your house.

Step 4:  All leftover alternating current will flow back to the utility meter and will be eligible for consumption. In certain jurisdictions, households will return unused air conditioning to the electric grid in the form of electricity credits on their next power bill. This is referred to as net metering.

What Are The Benefits of Solar Panels?

There are many financial and environmental advantages of investing in solar power for you and society as a whole.  Solar panels will greatly lower the carbon emissions in terms of the environment. Solar panels usually have decent financial benefits and help to reduce the energy bills.

Solar panels have many environmental advantages too. Your solar panels will provide clean, green electricity for your home after they have been manufactured. Over the course of its lifespan, a 6.6kW solar panel can mitigate greenhouse gas emissions by more than 250 tonnes (Victoria, Australia).

Since there are no emissions associated with the generation of solar power, solar panels help to mitigate air pollution.

In virtually every case, our study suggests that solar panels are financially worthwhile. A 6.6kW solar power system will save you up to $1,200 – $2,000 per year on your energy bills.  Payback cycles for solar panel systems can be as short as four years and as long as seven years.

If you use high-quality materials, your solar panels will save you money for the next 25 years or more. Solar panels will save you more than $50,000 during their lifetime. Our solar savings calculator can assist you in estimating your financial incentives.

In Australia,  you are able to get a rebate to help reduce the cost of buying and installing solar panels.  In most cases, the rebate can save you approximately $3700 off the total cost of the system.

What are the disadvantages of Solar Panels?

Solar panels need sunshine to produce energy for your house, so they will not function in the dim, snowy, or rainy conditions. The idea of solar storage, which enables households to continue to provide energy supply at night, is also at the root of the mystery around solar operating at night.

Since solar panels can only generate power during the day, the question becomes, “How can solar panels supply power overnight when there is no sunlight?”  There are two key options that can assist in resolving this problem.  Net metering and solar-plus-storage technologies allow the solar panel device to access power overnight while solar panel generation is inactive, either by connecting to the electric grid or to a battery.  Solar panels are a renewable round-the-clock electricity source because of grid connections and solar energy storage.

Net metering operates by sending any excess electricity generated by your solar panels back to the power grid, and you are paid for that energy at a one-to-one ratio (you get to sell it at the same price you buy it). These credits are transferable and can be applied on additional energy bills. It should be noted that certain energy providers do not have net metering. Overall, this is a fantastic opportunity to use renewable energy.

Solar Panel Maintenance

Solar panels, in general, need relatively little maintenance to operate. The only thing they need is a light cleaning on a daily basis to ensure that grass, leaves, and other debris aren’t obstructing the sun’s rays. The only way you may need more intensive maintenance is during times of heavy snowfall if you live in the south or if the energy production of your panels begins to decline.   However, during the dry season or extended periods without rain, and there is more dust in the air, it’s important to keep on top of Solar Panel Cleaning to ensure you solar system is running efficiently.  It is generally recommended that you perform solar panel cleaning between two and four times per year.

Solar panels can not generate energy if the sun is obscured by fog, and they will definitely not produce electricity if there is no available sunlight during the nighttime hours. When planning a solar installation, it is important to schedule ahead of time. In today’s day and age, almost everyone will find a solar energy device to power their home at the right price, whether it’s net metering, the right solar energy storage solution, or even matching an electric vehicle with your system.  You may also consider installing an external switch to heat your hot water system if it is totally reliant on solar energy to heat the water.
